![]() With softsynths like FM8 and Operator, you can do just that, but the raw wave forms you can create are infinite feeding waveforms into other waveforms to create new and interesting sounds with rich harmonics and overtones. ![]() Subtractive synthesis is all about sculpting a raw waveform into a musical sound using a filter. ![]() It’s probably the furthest thing from using an analog synth, but it’s a sound that I love. As a sound designer, I have to cite how easy it is to create a plethora of sounds using FM. Maybe it's because the Sega Genesis soundchip used FM and that was my favorite gaming console when I was growing up. Maybe it's because I grew up listening to 80's music that had the classic DX7 sound in it. Out of the many different types of synthesis to choose from, FM (frequency modulation) synthesis is probably my favorite.
